Our Careers Services 09-10

Introduction on Careers Services
In the first cycle of the year, a careers teacher will meet all S5 students. He or she will introduce to them the teachers-in-charge, the programme plan of the year as well as services of our team including counselling, talks and seminars, board displays and resources available.

Careers Webpage
A careers Webpage is linked with the school homepage, introducing our services and useful web sites to facilitate students' self-access on factual information. Students are encouraged to explore the opportunities available to them before consulting their careers teachers.

Lending CD ROOMs and VCDs
A list of programmes available is uploaded on the Careers Webpage. Students can borrow the CD ROMs or VCDs through the careers prefects ab=nd watch them at home.

Board Displays
The destinations of S5 and S7 graduates will be posted on the board on the ground floor after the survey on the graduates' destinations has been finished in the late October.
All other materials concerning careers and further studies are posted in the covered playground (furth studeies and training opportunities in local institutions), in the Careers Room (further studies overseas), and outside the staff room on 2nd floor (scholarships as well as study and training opportunities for senior level students).
Students should read dsiplays on the above boards frequiently. They can approach their class teacher or the Careers Mistress as instructed if they are interested in joining the programmes advertised on the careers boards.

Application for Scholarships
Students who are interested in applying for the scholarships posted on the board outside the staff room on the 2nd floor should contact Mrs. T. Kong as soon as possible.

Individual / Group counselling
1) Group counselling
Careers teachers will meet all S5 and S7 students during lunchtime or afterschool to discuss with them about their future. The duration and frequency may be adjusted according to students' needs.
2) Individual counselling
Careers teacher interview individual students on request, giving them advice on subject selection, choices of programmes or universites, etc.
On the day before the release of results of HKCEE, a counselling session will be open to all S5 students. Students can see their careers teachers at school and raise problems about their future. Upon the release of results of HKALE and HKCEE, the same kind of counselling service will be provided for all S5 and S7 students.

Summer Work Experience Scheme
S5 and S7 students are nominated by class teachers to join the Summer Work Experience Scheme organized by the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters.

Disseminating Resources and Information
1) Publication from various government departments and organizatins are put in the Careers Room so that students may refer to them in the opening hours of the Room.
2) Extra pamphlets are distributed to class monitresses concerned. Students who are interested can get a copy from them.
3) Free booklets published by the government departments and voluntary agencies, eg., Hok Yau Club, are dustributed to students concerned if they are found helpful to them.
4) Publications on careers are ordered for students concerned and distributed to them.
5) Seats for talks and seminars organized by various voluntary organizations and tertiary institutions are reserved for students.
6) References on careers are brought and kept in the library for students' reference.

Talks and Seminars
All talks and seminars are compulary. Curculars informing students as well as thrie parents of talks and seminars are to be distributed to students and reply slips are collected before the talks and seminars are held. Students who cannot attend the talks or seminars must ask for permission from the teacher-in-charge in writing two days before the talk or seminars is held. The preliminary schedule is as follows:

Mock Interview
All S5 to S7 students are invited to join a mock interview held on 21st November, 2009. Past students who are working in the managerial level will serve as interviewers. The number of students that can be served in this programme depends on the number of interviewers available.

Evaluation
A questionaire on careers services will be distributed to each student right after an activity. Your opinions on our careers services help us improve in the coming year.

Careers Room
The Careers Room opens from 7:50 am to 4:20pm on the school days. Resources like prospectus, annual reports and pamphlets of various institutions and programmes are available. Students can read the materials there during opening hours, but they must not take away any of them.
